Following its resounding success with a sell out performance of Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem last season, we are delighted to welcome back the Oxford Bach Choir to perform a work by the composer at the heart of its musical raison d’etre with the wonderful St John Passion by J. S. Bach.
Written in 1724 the St John Passion is full of the ferocity and sorrow of the Good Friday story whilst at the same time suffused with all the hope, light and optimism anticipating the resurrection in a way that only Bach could achieve.
Joined by the forces of the London Mozart Players we are sure that this concert will leave you in no doubt about the greatness of this unique work and an early booking is advised.
Concert ends: 9.50pm. *Alexander Sprague is indisposed, and we are extremely grateful to James Gilchrist for performing the role of Evangelist at short notice.
Online booking has now closed.
The Box Office at the Sheldonian Theatre will open at 6.30pm.
