Works from the Merton Choirbook & Duruflé Requiem
This wonderful choir has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recognition since its founding in 2008 and we are very proud to feature it regularly in our series.
This year, they bring a programme in which the main work is Duruflé's beautiful Requiem. Based on the composer's devotion to Gregorian Chant, which he uses throughout, this spell-binding piece conveys Duruflé's own serenely expressed faith and belief in redemption.
This performance will also introduce Merton's splendid new Dobson organ built for the College in readiness for the 750th celebrations in 2014. The organ, consisting of 43 speaking stops over three manuals, is the first that Dobson Pipe Organ Builders of Lake City, Iowa have built outside North America. We hope that any of the concert audience will join us for an introduction to this spectacular instrument at 7pm.
